Adwords - exact vs phrase

Hi,
I hope this is the right place for this question.
I've been running an Adwords campaign for a month and am now looking at refining it to make it more efficient with the data I have collected.
My question is what is best practice for bidding on phrase and exact match.
Lets say my keyword is "sausages". The majority of my sales from looking in GA from from the keywords "sausage" and "sausages", none from phrase matches such as "where can I buy sausages" etc.
In my adwords I had [sausages], [sausage],"sausage" and "sausages".
My average CPC is higher for the exact match.
I'm not sure what do to based on the above - drop the exact or drop the phrase match?
For instance since CPC is higher for exact I could drop that and still pick it up via phrase match which has the lower CPC? Or when I'm competing with a phrase match against someone with an exact match will I drop down?
Any guidance appreciated!

Conversely, there are a large number of members here who have websites that would like to submit them to as many directories as they can. So, why not bring the two together in one thread?

A waitress who is quite voluptuous, wearing a miniskirt and a skinny top comes to him and asks “What can I get you sir?” The man checking her out from top to bottom, giving a good stare at her for one to two minutes tells her “I want a quickie!” The waitress looking at him with disgust goes back to the kitchen and after composing herself goes to him and says once again “What can I get you sir!” The man again replied “I want a Quickie.” This time the waitress slaps him on his face and the slap was so hard that there was an echo all around. The other man who was sitting just behind him looking at the sight started laughing hysterically saying “Its called Quiche man not a Quickie!” Lol!!

There is this new teacher in a class of little ones trying to explain them that she is an American. Then she asks her students “How many of you are Americans too?” The students not really knowing what to answer but just wanted to be like their teacher so all of them waved their hands in the air except one. The teacher surprised asked the little girl “Why didn’t you raise your hand?” The girl replied ” Because I am not an American.” The teacher then asked “Then What are you?” The girl replied “I am a proud Canadian. My Mom is a Canadian and my father is a Canadian too so I am also a Canadian.” The teacher taken aback said “That’s no reason. If your dad was a moron and your mom was a moron too then you are also a moron?” The little girl with an innocent smile on her face replied “Then I’d rather be an American.” Lol!

There is this fireman who’s working at a station house on his fire truck when he notices a little girl beside him with a fireman’s hat and a little red wagon with a small ladder attached to it and the wagon tied to a dog. The fireman walks up to her and asks “What are you doing little girl?” The girl answers “I am playing with my dog. I am the fireman and thats my fire truck run by my dog.” The fireman looks closer to her wagon and notices that the so called fire truck is being tied with the dog’s testicles. The man not knowing what to say to her says “You have a beautiful fire truck, but don’t you think your truck would run faster if you tie it with the neck of your dog?” The little girl replied “Yeah mister, you are right. But then my fire truck would not have a siren.” Lol!!!
